Does anyone have this book or had the opportunity to read it? I'm curious whether items are given accreditation to the proper designer or if everything is lumped under the 'George Nelson Office'.

I saw it
I don't own it, but I looked through it at the library and I wasn't very impressed.
No new or unusual photographs (those that are here are poor quality) and lots of writing, which looked to me as old news.

I have it
and it's a good book. It does not give specific attribution to all the designs that came out of the Nelson office, but it does have a great deal of biographical information about George Nelson that I found very interesting.

Buy it.
I love this book. If you are interested in Nelson and his accomplishments at all then this is THE book to own.

I too enjoyed reading about George
I purchased this book a few years back; and, I recall really enjoying the time I spent reading it. I found the writing acceptable and delighted with the insight of Nelson's design ideology.
There have been scads of books on Eames design, Bauhaus, Knoll, Herman Miller and all the other MCM Greatest hits. To my knowledge this is the only in depth book on George; although, he authored many books and articles during his active years.
I just thumbed through it as I am writing this post. I found the photos to be crisp and while they may not be earth shattering they help to tell the story.
The only downside is the price. It is published by MIT press and as a small specialty publisher they just don?t have blockbuster sellers which allow them to achieve an economy of scale for more affordable pricing.
I suspect the same is true of Schiffer books. Schiffer very politely and graciously declined to pursue the Nelson Clock book proposed by LRF to my disappointment. Honestly though, after the few hundred collectors, libraries and oddly curious how large of a pressing could be expected to actually sell? Would you risk your capital and resources on such a slim margin?

i think you might be right
Schiffer is the dean of all collectible books, and we have seen all the books and reissues that Leslie Pena has done for them.
I have several options that i am looking at
I think it would be a great coffee table book but We will get some more feed back from 2 more publishers that i sent the outline to.(They seem to like the outline)
At least they let me down easy, and did not bruise the old defensive ego to bad , but the bottom line is
who really wants to read these books ?
The 12 or 15 great people on this forum or the rest of the world.
I think I was more rejected about my rejection from Harvard Business School 30 years ago but still made a big success with out the MBA degree from Harvard.
If we do proceed it will be a great book 1st class or I would not be involved or either with my brother.
Thanks for all you guys and gals interest, any other great ideas forward to Peter Schieffer , he seems to want to listen to pitched ideas.

i am like you i like lots of pictures !!!! too much print is like being back in law school!!! with out the pictures,
got to have pictures lots of good pictures, and it is a shame that Nelson book did not put lots of great ones in cause you know they had all kind of access to his files and data for the detail that that book is.

My problem with this book
is that the pictures were not great quality, and although the writing goes more into Nelson philosophy about design, there's no new furniture or clocks to whet my appetite to own the book.

How
often I have bought a book for the photos and only later discovered much (or even a little) valuable information in the text. Not everything can be communicated by images alone !

.
The philosophy of interior design by this author is uber droog,to use a dutch word(DRY).Some books can be sorta like geodes, good once you crack the dull surface. This one on Nelson is like that...
