Soooo...
the show was GOOD...not fantastic but good. Some of the pieces were downright DIRTY, visibly. The DAF was cracked. There are folks on this forum with bigger clock collections than what was shown. The drawings are always cool. The Home Office Desk (one of my personal Holy Grail pieces) had huge numerals that looked like they had been written in permanent marker on the file "drawer" and then an unsuccessful attempt had been made to completely remove them. Not that I wanted all these untouched PRISTINE pieces, I don't mind pieces that have been used/enjoyed, but DIRTY and DAMAGED? I guess I did expect a little more from Vitra.
I definitely enjoyed the Eames exibit in St. Louis a few years back much more and it was a much better installation. Many more personal artifacts and rough sketches and seemingly more comprehensive.
Anyway, my 2¢, I'd go if you're within a few hours drive or need to burn some frequent flyer miles...or just have so much cash and free time that it doesn't matter. Your money would actually be better spent on the catalog than the travel expenses. The catalog is better than the show itself.
WOW, kinda sounds like I hated it...
