Was looking for an arc floor lamp and found them priced anywhere from $ 2000.00's to $250.00. Does anyone know about the origional arc lamp? Was Kovacs the origional designer? I have found Kovacs and Arco to be similar in photos aside from the vent holes on the top and differant shaped bases. The one I settled for was $160.00 w/ a black circular marble base that looks like an Arco (should be here by end of week). I hope I am happy with it being it's all I can justify at the time. Oddly I saw the exact lamp on The Donald's show last night. Then watched 9 1/2 weeks with all it's MCM funiture in a contemporary NYC condo setting.

Thank You JeffB. I was aware of this piece @ DWR as well as its place in the MOMA, and should have read the info.
So I am conflicted.
Here's a piece ~ still in production~ sanctioned by the designer which makes my purchase that much worse.It's not like I am buying a piece from ebay and refurbishing ~ a "fresh" authentic piece is still available.
So am I not to have this "feel" in my home due to finances?
Ethically yes, but "dude" $2696. vs $160 with the visual differance being the base! I too have the capabiliy to produce artwork as mention in a previous post about an Eames poster and occasionally do pieces for myself like a Chanel/Warhol thing for my bathroom, but would never sell. I would prefer not to disrespect the designer of this piece, but I am getting it and as in fashion, you get what you pay for.
Guess the next time one of my designs is blatently taken I will look at my lamp and get over it.
