My dad has had this chair in his garage for many years and we'd like to know if it is a genuine original or a modern copy. He was told it is an original but it has visible screws under the armrest and this is supposedly a sign of fakes. Can anyone help with this? Either way, it would be interesting to know when and where it was probably manufactured. Thanks.

Congrats! I'm 99 % you have an original Eames Lounge Chair! If you want to further confirm, post some pictures with the cushions removed. The screws under the arm rests don't count as visible. Your is a third series, from the period between 1971 and 1991, according to the black rectangular medallion. It needs some love for sure, but it'll be beautiful again after you do some cleaning. I'm not too sure if there's much you can do about the dents on the leather cushions though. Does it have the ottoman too?

It's the real deal. Seems the cushions aren't the down ones. Twas the dark period in HM when they put foam instead of down feathers, nevertheless it's still the real McCoy and can still command a high value.

Thanks for the replies
I've uploaded a few more pics. There is an ottoman but without the legs. On the inside of the leather cushions is the number 33993. The story behind the chair is that it belonged to a relative who lived abroad for many years and so had various people storing it for him. It was apparently used for a few years by some family members and then given to my dad around two decades ago. Apparently the people who had it in their house decided they didn't want the ottoman so took the legs off to make it easier to get it in the loft. Sadly the legs disappeared never to be seen again. It seems nobody really knew what they dealing with and unfortunately it wasn't looked after. I only found out quite recently that it had been kept in our damp and dirty garage for many years with nothing more than a plastic sheet over it. Apart from the dents, the leather doesn't seem to have much wear on it. My father has never shown any interest in it and actually wanted to throw it away. However, I would love to try and restore it so that one day it may take pride of place in the house; it would certainly be an interesting project. There is some rust on the screws, bolts, legs, etc and the leather could do with a clean. The leather on the ottoman needs work where the insides are visible and there is some stitching that needs sorting. I have no idea about anything like that and I wouldn't want to make a bodge of it. How would I best go about doing any of this? Cheers.
