Do you know who you spoke to...
Do you know who you spoke to at the Met? I filed a report but they just told me to take it to my local trading standards, who have done nothing thus far...

JMC Modern Scammers
Went to the Met yesterday and file a fraud report. Officer there told me that they would start a preliminary investigation (I provided them all know addresses, numbers, company reg no.s, company officers etc..) for these fraudsters as well as other infor i.e. they have registered dormant companies with Companies House/Inland Revenue but an actively traded Bank Account when we all loose our money:
Bank Name: Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank
Account Name: Cohen And Christopher Limited
Account Number: 04503538
Sort Code: 72 00 00
IBAN: GB36ALEI72000004503538
SWIFT: ALEIGB22
If anyone out their works for Alliance & Leicester, please close this account down. I've just contacted them and also the financial ombudsman in regards to this account and having it maked as suspect money laundering and fraud.
Will keep everyone posted on my mission to F##K these guys up as much as possible.

met police report
I don't know who was the lady who called me back to have more info, what I can say is that I didn't go there in person, I reported it through this email address:
mailbox.internet@met.pnn.police.uk
so I suggest you use this email as hopefully the same office will recieve many claims.
I gave full description of the event, provided two or three links of forums (included this one) to show it was not just me, attached the payment invoice and gave full info about the 3 or 4 websites these scammers have.
In few days I received a report from the police and a phone call to colect more info.
The trick for me was to keep emailing JMC regularly keeping them updated about filing reports and also pretending I was reporting it to many different authorities. At a certain point I guess they had enough or they got scared.
Best of luck!

Modern classic Refund
Wow - I cannot believe it. finally got a refund from these guys about 4 months later. Filing the Police report and giving them a copy did the trick.
Good luck to everyone with these guys. It has been one hell of a battle!

Well done Dingo
Just wanted to congratulate you on getting your refund, it has given me a bit of motivation to start the battle. I have been following your thread but to embarrassed to comment as I foolishly paid for my goods by cheque. I am going to file a fraud report to the police today, did you have to take out a small claim against them?? as I have been in contact with consumers direct and that is the advice i have been given.

Sachiko
Hey Sachiko,
I know the feeling - my wife paid with a online cash transfer direct into their bank account. Lesson learned!
I did not end up needing to file in the small claims court. A police report to the met mail address provided above, and then they call you with the details. Fear not - the office who contacted me was aware of JMC/Modern Classic. I just scanned a copy in and sent it to John Christopher [john@cohenandchristopher.com]. I also made some heavy threats RE contacting HMRC/companies house etc... as the company is listed as dormant (which it obviously isn't)
Good luck!

Legal questions
We very often get questions related to legal problems due to the failure of dealers often specialized in the sale of design classics copies.
Long threads devoted to these problems regularly come back on this forum. One finds good advice here but, in this field, even well intentioned advice is not always reliable or complete enough.
It's a very technical and complex subject and the answers can change from one country to another.
It's for this reason that we have created this page where you can post your questions to professional experts.

Modern Classics Direct
I appreciate all the advice on this forum. Although I have been promised a cheque refund weeks ago it has failed to appear. Can you kindly let me know the best process to file a police report? I have tried using the referenced email address but have had no reply. Is there a physical location to visit in Croydon?

JMC Trading/Barclaycard - As bad as each other?
Those of you with sympathetic credit card issuers are lucky.....I placed a big order with JMC Trading for Eames style chairs in January 2008 and after months of poor service I eventually received the goods, some of which were of extremely poor quality. JMC Trading agreed to replace 4 of the chairs and collected them from me. A year on, the chairs have not been replaced and I am about £1400 down. JMC's courier company did not leave me with any paperwork and Barclaycard will not help me because I do not have this proof of return...Can Barclaycard really believe I'd spend a year arguing over something that didn't happen??? - they're just using it as an excuse.... Anyway, does anyone know what courier company JMC Trading uses to deliver/collect goods? Perhaps if I can contact the courier company they will have a record of the collection. Thanks to those who posted the address of the Met police fraud people. I will definately contact them next. I agree Trading Standards have been useless.

Hi Dingo
Thanks for your reply
I have now written my money off. I emailed the police and received a reply informing to contact trading standards or make a claim through the small claims court. I have followed the process with trading standards, they have now informed me to make a claim through the small claims court. I feel that I would be throwing more money away by making a claim.
If anyone has any other suggestions or have been successful please share with me the process you followed.
Thanks S

You can beat them
Hi,
I suggest you to read my story about classics.in.stock.co.uk which is posted on this forum.
after not getting any delivery (sounds familiar???) I followed the advice someone has written on this forum about filing a fraud report at the Frauddesk . I attached Classics In Stock in CC and then suddenly everything went fast. They delivered my goods within the week. That was just before me taking it one step higher. They have tons of companies so beware if you buy online.

AVOID MODERNODIRECT = TRENDTECHHK = JMCFURNITURE = CLASSICSINSTOCK ETC
Another company to avoid; Add to the list. I wonder when JMC imagination on inventing new companies will end...

Modern Classics Direct are thieves!
I too am waiting for a promised refund of £290 from MCD. It has been promised several times and as yet nothing has been transferred. It's impossible to speak to anyone directly because they use a 'call centre'. The fact that it's the same woman answering each time means that it clearly isn't but she says she can't put a call through but can only pass on a message. The only time I've spoken directly to anyone there was when the woman from the 'warehouse' called when I asked to cancel our order (we had paid a deposit but decided to cancel due to no receipt, no timeframe given and very bad customer service) saying that they had items in stock and could deliver. With such bad reports about these guys we said we just wanted our money back. I kept a record of the tel no just in case and for anyone needing to speak to them it's 07891 964784. She confirmed this morning that the address in Croydon is their admin address so we are going to visit them next week to get our money. I've reported this to the Met but they say it's not fraud if they are a genuine company. If I have no luck next week I will be approaching BBC Watchdog - does anyone want to join me?
