Hello, i recently bought a nice Marcel Breuer Wassily Chair manufactured ca. in the 80s an used in a lounge area of a big german insurance company. I don´t doubt that it is a real one, I am just curious about the manufacturer. It has the Marcel Breuer Signature and a sticker, but I don´t know the logo of the sticker. There might have also been a gavina sticker, because there is some glue left on the underside.
Maybe you guys knwo a little more... Thanks in advance
It´s no B4, it´s a B3 Wassily Chair
@ uasrem2: It is no B4, it´s the Wassily (B3). Why do you mention the tube is black? It´s chrome finished silver... don´t understand your last post.
Gavina printed the signature till the end of 1980s into the upper leather (the chair is from the mid 80s). The tube is seamless, the screws are hex in black with engravements and the leather is very thick and in fine used condition. As I said, there is definately no doubt, that the chair is a gavina wassily (the form of the glue that is left on the tube matches to the stickers used by gavina. I was just wondering what that sticker is about that is left on the chair. Possibly it´s from the store, where the insurance company (DEVK) bought them (they had 30 chairs in their chairman´s lobby).
But thanks anyway!
I have the solution!!!
Thanks woofwoof for your inspiration...
Very simple and some of you were right - it´s indeed the (old 1980s) logo of the insurance company, so yes, it´s an inventory number. I really like the idea of my chair, once standing in the fancy 80s lobby of this insurance firm. I lived 7 years in cologne (where the company´s central office is) not far away from the buidling. Have a look at the images...

they have an interestingly designed globe on top of their roof. (I don´t mean do advertise 🙂

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about these chairs. I don't think it's Knoll because there's no marking, but it could be older knoll (70's or 80's) and I'm not sure what types of production changes have occurred since then. The leather is high-quality and heavy duty, but the chrome endcaps aren't brazed on. The measurements are spot on for Knoll. Thoughts?
As far as I know the endcaps...
As far as I know the endcaps of the orginal Version (made by Gavina / Knoll) should be seamless and not be put on as in your case.

For sure there are better an worse knock-off manufacturers. In fact, knock-offs get better an better these days. I recently compared my old Gavina B3 to a new Knoll version and I had the impression, that it´s overall quality is not as good as in the old days...
