Greetings,
I have a pair of Fritz Hansen Egg chairs that have been in my family since the mid-1960s. My parents purchased them from friends who had bought them new and quickly tired of them. The chairs never had the seat pad - the separate cushion appears to be standard with the Egg chair.
My questions:
1. Does anyone know if early Egg chairs were produced without the seat pad?
2. Does the "0363" on the Fritz Hansen label identify the production period? For example, does it indicate March 1963?
Thanks,
BCB

Have you called Fritz Hansen?
They're still in business and still make the Egg Chair; they can answer your questions definitively.
That said, I'm pretty sure the answer to your first question is "No" and to your second question, "Yes". All the labels I've seen from that era have four digits: two in the range 01-12, followed by two in the 60s.

Thanks for your great info
Thanks to all for the useful feedback and photos. The chairs were reupholstered years ago. I suspect that even in 1963 the Egg was being produced without the seat pad. I know firsthand that it was (is) a very comfortable chair without the pad. My parents got the chairs used, but nearly new, and it seems unlikely the seat pads would have been discarded by the original owners.
