Guilty of
Keep Calm and Carry On pillow in guest bedroom, cowhide rugs and a veritable herd of antlers.

As a
punk style statement it is weak and boring, and old news as well. If he/she has that much ire, it could certainly be better spent on something that truly matters in this world. If it is just for yucks, its a swing and a miss for me.

Funny. And while I agree...
with the "F your..." to a lot of the design trends: taxidermy, fake taxidermy, wall decals, and especially the books arranged by color, I don't agree with hating on design classics. It seems to me it's a matter of how they are used.

"Fuck your ceramic owl...
"Fuck your ceramic owl umbrella stand" did make me laugh.

Cheers!

I have...
...one globe, the kind that lights up, and I love it and will always love it.
I don't think this person necessarily hates design classics. I saw it as boredom with stuff that is seen all over the internet in perfect rooms and perfect vignettes. I can barely stand to look at Apartment Therapy anymore because of this, never mind their awful writing and silly blog subjects.
It used to be that trends would develop over months, maybe a year or more. Now they spread like wildfire online and it seems like within a week or two of something like a cardboard taxidermy thing showing up, it's EVERYWHERE. However, if you aren't into cruising the internet for these sites, or if you don't have 20-something kids who send you links all the time like mine do, you might be blissfully unaware of this development in the style world. I envy you!
People on this board are dedicated to good design, but you gotta realize that there are quite a few other people out there for whom it's a decorating trend and in a few years they will have moved on to something else. (Maybe mahogany?!)

. . . SO sophisticated. We love you.
Now, I know I should know better -- but -- tell me those aren't pajama bottoms you're wearing . . .
