Some of you may be interested in the release of a new biography on Australian furniture designer Fred Ward, whose career spans more than 30 years. Ward was an incredibly prolific designer throughout the post-war period. It's not very often that a designer is acknowledged in Australia, so this is indeed a great opportunity to see rare designs and drawings by an Australian design pioneer.
To coincide with the release of the biography written by Derek Wrigley, the Gallery of Australian Design in Canberra has put together a survey of Ward's creative output over the years. One look at the beautiful timbers and craftsmanship is all you need to remind you what you get when you buy well designed and made furniture. A bit difficult for most DA'ers to attend but it's great to see a designer recognized for his valuable contribution to society.
