check in.
Howdy, everyone.
I'm Matt. Early 30s. Chef. Been collecting for a short time but have fondled DWR catalogs for my entire adult life. I suppose it never crossed my mind to find the stuff in thrift stores.
Anyway, enjoy being outside. I collect cookbooks and vintage stanley thermoses. I listen to bluegrass music.
I'm still finding my way with where to focus my collection. Having both Danish and American pieces currently is a reflection of that fact. The quality of the Danish stuff is absolutely undeniable...
I appreciate everyone letting me be a part of things around here.
confessions of a danish...
confessions of a danish hitman:
name: steven
profession: electrical engineer
favorite woods: teak, rosewood, bocote
favorite designers: hovmand-olsen, don shoemaker, kodawood, kipp stewart, arne vodder, finn juhl
penchants: some people like to sniff glue, I like to sniff finishing oils.
pet peeves: the painting of any mid century furniture, curved veneer, smoking, and air conditioning.
drink: tom collins
food: nothing beats a good tabbouleh and hommos
weapon: random orbital sander and mirka sanding discs.
finishing piece: fine bronze wool.
lessons I've learned: food grade based mineral oil is the best thing to use on teak, rosewood, and dark walnut.
best kills: finn juhl teak spade chair for $20, 6 bay teak cado wall unit with all the fixin's for $150.
As you should, Grendel...
Late 50's. A bit overweight. Still in with the folks although it looks as if Ma's about to kick off. Comb estate sales with a reckless, unquenchable fervor. It's my passion. That's mostly for business though. Do my personal shopping at the Walmart. The Brothers Eames are my heroes.
I'm relatively new here...
... started collecting stuff about a year ago. Mostly junked shit that I planned on fixing up. I'm an artist, I suppose, but do a lot of other things. Was faux finishing at the time and thought, 'I could do this to furniture, probably, as a sideline.' Now, of course, I don't ever want to use paint. I fall under the poverty line so I typically have to do everything myself and learn how first. It's fun. I don't really make any money off of it but I can still take my girlfriend to dinner here and there.

I'm Martin. Early 30's too. Worked as a furniture salesman and decorator for a number of years. On the side I sell mainly vintage Scandinavian stoneware/design on eBay and to private Danish collectors.
I love Art Deco and international modernism but have a very weak spot for Danish furniture from the late 1930s to early 1950s. Scandinavian modernism is a huge passion of mine and both my childhood and present neighborhood (roughly the same) are littered with architecture by Arne Jacobsen, the Lassen brothers, Vilhelm Lauritzen etc. which I enjoy driving by every day.
I have a modest but good collection of Danish furniture and then a lot of Scandinavian stoneware, esp. Saxbo. I also collect crafted pieces from the Japanese tea ceremony and modernist silver brooches to name a few other interest of mine.

Aunt Mark, there is room here
for both you and the dapper M.Andersen, so please no torch-passing just yet!
Martin, your blog is wonderful. Thanks for posting the link. I've been to a few flea markets in Copenhagen and Fredriksberg and you have induced a wave of homesickness in me for Denmark!
