I'd imagine its a knockoff or just a generic chair from American maker. Any insight? Provided 3 pics. You can see the backs of the chairs in the pic with the dresser. Thanks!

Looks like they're in a thirft/ consignment shop? Loose cushions? I assume the price is right so its probably worth picking them up. Most Juhl chairs I've come across are well marked and I can't find a set that look quite like this.

I can't say for sure-but I think those are legit Juhl 133 chairs that have been hacked by an over zealous upholsterer. Grandma probably wanted them to look "more traditional" and had the arms and back upholstered. If I saw those in a thrift shop I'd pick them up without giving it a second thought

The back of the chair is what is throwing things off. The supports don't really look close to the same. They're at an auction a few hours away. Hopefully they go cheap lol

The Spade chair doesn't have a cross brace across the back

The shape of the 'Spade Handles' at each end of the armrest is the wrong shape on these chairs. They look to be too bulbous.
Interesting chairs though, worth picking up if they are a tempting price.

This seems to be a good thread for vintage Spade Chair replicas.
While there are plenty of recent Chinese knockoffs, I just came across this pair of chairs that appear to be vintage replicas. If only the first photo was in the listing, I might have jumped at a low asking price. However subsequent photos show an odd decision by the manufacturer that make it clear that it is a knockoff.

Interesting, the devils in the detail and these chairs don't hold up under closer scrutiny.
I have seen a vintage advert from a furniture company called Gimbles that retailed FJ spade chair knock offs back in the day.

Certainly the joints and quality are clues, but why on earth would they decide to do that zigzag loop spring layout rather than the usual parallel layout. Not only does it look weird, but it would seem to cause more problems (e.g. quicker wear from overlapping springs, deeper grooves required, odd-sized spring lengths, etc.) without providing any cost or production benefit.
And the most obvious question: if you are making a knockoff, why incorporate such a glaring tell that grabs your eye almost instantly?

$1300, plus juice and tax for a pair of knockoffs:

Ouch.
