I need disassemble and ship a Finn Juhl 137 "japan chair". Disassembling the frame was quite easy, but I am left with the seat. The seat "appears" to be 2 panels joined together, but I don't know how they are joined as it is hidden under the upholstery. I assumed it was a tongue and groove sort of connection, but the panels don't budge when I try to pull them apart.

Are there some hidden screws, or do I just need to be more forceful?

I've not taken that chair apart
But the seat and back are similar to the Diplomat chair which I have.
The diplomat chair has a metal L shaped bracket that attaches the two elements with screws, so you may need to open up the upholstery to get to the connector. I would not try to rip them apart, it could cause significant damage.
Good luck.

Good tip, thanks!
There is a flex to the connection, which is consistent with metal L-brackets. I don't want to open the upholstery to get at them, and likewise I don't want my client to have to do the same, so I guess I will have to leave them and ship them as-is.
