In my continuing attempts to find a great sofa at an affordable price, since we're all collectors, etc., if anyone on this forum has a shorter-than-84" MCM sofa for sale, I'd be interested to see what you got.
I'm in Minneapolis, so the sofa would have to be in the US. I will pay for long-distance shipping if the price is right.
If asking this turns out to be illegal with the forum gang, then I'm sorry.
Oh, I saw one yesterday that I was so tempted to bring home
It was an avocado green pleather pull-out sleeper sofa by Kroehler.
It was in great shape, but unfortunately it wasn't the higest of quality. But the shape and size and color just screamed MCM.
If I can find a similar photo anywhere, I'll post it.
Wormley sofa
Barry, I've got an Edward Wormley for Dunbar sofa in a storage unit in Pittsburgh that I was going to have recovered and sell. It's the one with the legs that go up the back. Anyway, I'll sell it to you as is for 300 bucks but you have to recover it, it's got some nasty blue flowered crap on it. I'll have my husband take some pictures of it when he is there this week and post them on here.
i have a two seater ...
i have a two seater george Nelson very rare from 1956 from his modular seating collection,

FOUND ONE!
Just won this 65" wide near-mint condition Milo Baughman sofa made in 1972 as a "custom Sofa" by Directional using custom Boris Kroll fabric....and I won it for only $450.00. I'll have to pay about $275.00 to get it shipped but, heck, that's a great deal on a cool sofa that'll work well for me.
Barry
looks like you found a great one the nelson i have is armless the foam is as hard as a rock and the fabric is vintage blue.
It would take a total redo before it is invited to be part of my collection but i am thinking if i keep it i will do it in Girard quatrafol I think it will be cool.
so i shall carry the torch?
The couch is complicated. An anchor of the home.
I am in need and am suffering the same dilemma...
Congrats on the purchase. The construction seems mint and i adore the
fabric!
(i have an original 20ft couch from the early 60's, custom built and down-filled.
Showing it's age and came with the house. Love it/hate it. A built-in that needs
attention)
replace or restore?
First
Let's see a photo of the built in.
My gut feeling is that it could be restored to be great. Reupholstery/refoaming really breathes new life into seating. Plus, it is very functional. Not many people can boast 20 feet worth of sofa to accommodate guests. In addition, a built in is a rare .find..
or a kennel of dogs!
It is debatable.
We have been two years deciding what to do.
Under summer covers it is a worn dark brown mohair.
The architects drawing and maker info was in the original owners files.
Wish it was that easy these days. This was built in '63.
Of all the hundreds of photos of my house, i've never taken one of that side
of the liv/rm. Unresolved and frustrating.
