Hi there; I recently picked up these two really great fiberglass shell chairs at my local thrift shop (and for a steal, $3.99/each!) and I am trying to figure out where they came from. They aren't embedded with any Miller/Eames markings, however, I did see that some of these chairs had paper tags, and am wondering if the tags fell off over the years long after the glue wore off. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Those are legit Herman Miller/Eames chairs. Based on the bases and slip on glide boots, Im guessing mid 1950's.

Yup, nice score.
Boot glides, X-bases, no flattened spots for wide-mount bases, all add up to mid-50's DSX and they appear in nice shape, too.
Aside from adding replacement glides, I wouldn't do anything but use them.

Thanks
Thanks for your reply; I was wondering what they could be, I've always loved MCM design, but hadn't spent much time learning about it. I love looking through the forum to see what people are picking up!

Thanks!
Thanks! I definitely need to replace the slides; I wasn't sure where to get them, now I know who I can reach out to! 🙂

Hi
Great finds at a great price. You can buy replacement boot glides on eBay.

Venice
If there is no embossing these are probably Venice side shells missing the red label.

That is a big assumption.
I've had several HM shell chairs without any embossing on them. We have no proof that this came from Venice.

Safe assumption
Considering the evidence. no embossing, x base, small mounts, and slot screws are identical to the marked venice side shell I am sitting on.
