Fellow collectors,

Recently I purchased rather a lot of furniture.
For my work I've rented together with my partner a huge depot and this sudden galore of space tempts me into extending my collection...
I'm at a point where, when buying a vintage object, I become fascinated and curious about other forms made by the designer.
I'm even thinking of purchasing series made by one person, just to see the link between them (wich I find very pleasing..)
Am I losing grip on reality here?

For instance:
I came in possession of four hongisto chairs by tapiovaara, rather by accident, while picking up something else.
I already knew I wanted a domus-chair (wich I am working on), but now I've maybe seen other furniture by him in a local community center...

How do you cope?

Haha
This is an all-too-common theme amongst all collectors and enthusiasts of all things. I believe you will realize your limits once you have hit them and at that point re-evaluate your collection, your approach, your asthetic, etc.
It is a learning process. Enjoy the journey!

Try evalutating exactly what ...
Try evalutating exactly what your collection should be like. You already professed your interest in design evolution, but I sense a strong inclination towards blanket buying. As, buying everything that comes your way. The danger in that approach is you'll drown in objects so much, you won't be able to fully appreciate them.

I do buy things in a spontaneous way, that's true, but my esthetics on the other hand, are rather specific.
My purchases just have no practical use anymore. I buy and gather to protect and to preserve, I guess.
I'm planning a website on wich I can post pictures and information, maybe I'll post it here then, when it's finished.
Many regards..

.
I think all I want now is a silk rug, huge brown leather bean bag, a slab of marble, a Tolomeo reading lamp and a blanket.
If I can bare to open the spare room I'll sell it all and just buy those things.
Eventually your furniture can own you, watch out.

Nothing like
Nothing like hands on experience to further your knowledge. (at least in my experience.) I caught the design bug about five years ago and have bought and sold hundreds of pieces of furniture. The pieces that I truly love stuck around, while the ones bought for understanding moved on to happier homes. If you've got the spare cash I don't see a problem with this method, just make sure you have an outlet for the leftovers once you're done with them. I've had a few instances where I just could not move pieces for a period of time...luckily, I had storage space available until they did move 😉
