I am a self confessed audiophile, and have modern hifi at home but I am always interested in radios and of course good design. I am thinking of buying a little radio for the kitchen. The Braun RT 20 sticks in my mind, as do these cool little units below by Tivoli..

Have you got a modern looking radio? if not, what is your fav? I did search on this subject but nothing was really dedicated to it 🙂

Hard to go wrong with the Braun its gorgeous and sounds great.
The Tivoli radio seems to be a nod by Henry Kloss to his beautiful KLH tuners and radios. I prefer the KLH Model 8 to the Tivoli. That said just about all Kloss designs look and sound great
Another favorite is the Brionvega TS-522 (now back in production) The TS-502 is also great.
Also, don't rule oot B&O beolit
Lastly, there are some more nice options at the link below

My favorite little radio is so new that you can't get one yet... But it'll be shipping soon, and you can pre-order one in red if you hurry.

These may not be my all-time favourites, but there are some fresh ideas out there:

Ceramic Radio by Studio Lama

I have Tivoli pictured above (model one) really nice radio nicely made, great tone and the reception is very good,
Tivoli I pal is pretty good to plus it uses a rechargeable battery so its very portable
I'm in the middle of restoring an SK1 (similar to below) I've read that the Tivoli one is modeled on this, nice radio and pretty compact

Thanks for the replies so far. I heard the same Pete, seems they are highly rated. The Braun looks great too, I think I'll go for a Braun of some sort!

Iam with NickR60...
on the Tivoli. I love the Brionvega but somehow it's re-edition seems to be nostalgia driven and not a product for the early 21st century. The next question is of course why the Tivoli would be the most contemporary of the two.

Thanks Pete. What would be a fair price for an SK 25 and the RT 20? Can they be used with an ipod?

That's one of the cool things about the Tivoli Nick...
is that it has an AUX in on the back so you could put an iPod dock next to it hooked into that line-level input, or just go out of the headphone jack, but then you've got all that bi-amplification nonsense yada yada...it even has a sub output. We have a Model Three hooked to an Airport Express and a powered subwoofer attached. It's a lot of sound from a very discreet package.

Nice Braun-style DAB radio
I really like this digital (DAB) radio that currently resides in my kitchen. It's about four years old, the sound is good, and it's got that Dieter Rams thing going on (it was designed by Ideo).
The only problem is that the manufacturer (Acoustic Solutions) seems to have gone out of business, so if you want to get one, you may have to scour eBay.

Ultra Transistor radios from c. 1961 / 2. Can't remember the designers names - the bigger radio won an award run by Design magazine I seem to remember.

Keep them coming. Pete I have bought myself an SK 1 to get stuck in with! As per usual the bakelite needs repainting, and no doubt the set needs a good service. Looking forward to a nice little project.

Designed or painted by Memphis associate, Adrian Olabuenaga in 1986. Tube radio, afraid to plug it in.
