I have been watching these for the past couple months on French Ebay, supposed super rare and valuable vintage cocotte lamps by Serge Mouille. Same seller... sellling under several different names?... Hmmmm. My guess is that newer lamps are being aged to look vintage. This is such a rare lamp..... and I've seen 4 of these in 2 months on Ebay.fr.... another listed right after one sells. If you look closely.... same blue wall and counter in some pics from two of the different seller names. If you add up all the totals for the lamp sales you will get around $20,000.... absolutely crazy for new lamps. Please use your own judgment, but I think its pretty obvious that people are getting ripped off.
See below.
Here are the sellers..... (all of which are new)...and the Ebay.fr auctions

Might not be fake, might be...
Might not be fake, might be a case of the seller doesn't receive anything etc. Have been a few scams in the UK where the seller is made to wait through various excuses until their protection runs out, or the seller is in fact selling for a 3rd party who in turn receives the cash from the 'seller' offering them a percentage to sell on their behalf, once the seller realises the 3rd party hasn't posted the lamp out to the buyer it's too late and the 'seller' is left out of pocket having to refund the buyer whilst the 3rd party has long since cleared off with the buyer's money. I read about this scam somewhere where a single mum was ripped off for thousands thinking she was going to get a cut of the sales she was making for somebody.
Fake Mouille Lamps
I have also been watching and bidding on the cocotte lamps that have been popping up in the past few years on ebay.
It seems to be the same sellers. They also seem to buy of each other to boost feedback. Very similar descriptions also. When I have asked questions they have always been
The problem is if they have been made in the past 10 years and aged it is very hard to tell.
Are there any Mouille Experts on this forum who can clarify what to look for. It is quite obvious that the cocotte lamp is being copied. Not sure waht other pieces may of been copied.

An Ebayer sent me the link to his forum because I am the seller of the lamp. I came here to clear this up.
"No I is not won 20 000 euro! I cancelled the sale 3 times because the buyers wanted to pay by paypal and I did not take this method of payment l, I thus changed profile and put a paypal account: fredsanga75 and claudeboilin are my profiles supercapicap it is not I"
No, I did not make 20,000 Euros [off this sale?]! I cancelled the sale three times because the buyers wanted to pay by Paypal and I do not accept Paypal. Then I changed my profile and added Paypal [as an accepted method of payment]. 'Fredsanga75' and 'claudeboilin' are my user names. The Ebay ID 'Supercapicap' is not me.

It's easy to read into something when you don't know the whole story. [as near as I can tell, anyway]

Hope that helps. Now my lunch break is over, must rush back to my UN translator post. Ta!

Mr Ball, you made fun of a French persons use of English on an international forum. -How clever!
If you think about it, Design Addict isn't even based in an English speaking country.
Just wait and soon we'll all have to start communicating in Mandarin on the forum... After all it's the language spoken by the largest amount of people in the world.
Mr Alexander
Mr Alexander you've missed my point
The supposed seller of these lamps has come here to clear his good name but at the very least he could have written it in French.
After Spanky translated it only confirms what I thought and know.
What's not clever is that because he didn't have a paypal account he would forgo 20,000 euro....and 3 times!
So if I'm the villian here then so be it!
That's the same veined marble slab tabletop
in both supercapicap's and claudeboulin[number]'s photos. But maybe I misinterpreted what the French seller meant by "supercapicap it is not I".
His response read like a Babblefish translation. Sometimes Babblefish spits out stuff that makes sense but a lot of the time it gets really garbled.
Fredsanga75,
(I speak french and english. The problem is that the other people on this website think that you are all three personas. Is this not true? They do not believe that you refused 30,000 euros three times running. Are you or are you not "supercapicap"?)
(My french keyboard with the proper symbols does not translate onto this site, sorry).
P.S., Spanky,
that translation was spot on. I have actually seen this guy's lamps on french ebay and they are not bad looking. From my interpretation of his website, he is not trying to pull one over on anybody. His page clearly states that they are new and that he makes them himself in his own studio.
I've been thinking about getting two for above our bed to use as reading lamps. I'll be curious to see what he has to say on this thread. What amazes me is that he even FOUND this thread, no?
