Hi there!! I have just acquired a Kofod - Larsen Peacock Hoop style chair for restoration. It utilizes vintage Fagas straps that have peg/post ends vs the standard clip that are usually seen on the MCM Kofod Selig style furniture. After extensive search on the web, it is my understanding that they are no longer in production. Here is My idea....cut off the old ends that still have the metalwith pegs attached, ( I have all 10) and perhaps bond them with a glue for bonding rubber to metal to some new Pirelli Rubber Webbing. Do you think that may work?? I really don't know how else to fix these Fagas straps and keep the original integrity of the chair. Does anyone have any other ideas?? I have one of those chairs but mine was missing the original straps and someone had stapled a whole lot of Pirelli webbing to the frame. (Thanks again to whoever it was here who told me what about the straps!)
If there is an adhesive that would make a very strong bond between metal and rubber, your plan could work. I would bet it would have to be epoxy. What have you got to lose?
Missing something here. Never having seen the post style clips except in photos, I don't understand how they're attached to the straps originally. And is the flat metal part galvanized? If so, they might need extra surface preparation to assure a good bond.
There are specially formulated 2-part adhesives designed for bonding certain polymers to metal available from specialty online suppliers. It would help to know if Pirelli straps are actual rubber or not. IIRC, one is called Plexus MA300 by ITW and another is West System G-Flex. 3M makes some appropriate structural adhesive products, too, I'm sure. And it's possible that good old Devcon 2-ton epoxy from the hardware store might work, too. Could be worth a test before going to extra effort and expense.
Pirelli webbing is rubber on a fabric base. I think the Fagas straps may have been vinyl, though--but that's not a concern here since Pirelli webbing would be the replacement material.
If the clips are indeed galvanized metal, then you can just get some galvanized sheet metal product of some sort at a hardware store to test adhesives on. I think those nailing plates for carpentry framing are galvanized and they are cheap, too! It's a thought.

I am unsure if the "plates" are galvanized metal, but, I believe it is the same metal that was originally used in the clips during that time period. ...I think I'll take it to hardware store and see if they can identify it, and while I am there pick up some galvanized nailing pates and Devcon 2-ton epoxy, and give it a test... Like "Spanky" said...."What have you got to lose?" .

Just make sure you buy the slow-set stuff and not any of the 15-minute or quick-setting varieties.
