Het everyone,
I'm still trying to find the perfect fabric to redo my sofa/daybed. I think I finally found it. The woman whose mid-century shop I'm helping at just re-upholstered a sofa in a very fun, vibrant mid-century fabric. She still has quite a bit of fabric left and is willing to sell it to me a large discount since I help her do her internet business. She's only charging me $15 per yard. She paid well over twice that. I love the bright greens in the fabric. Green of all shades is my favorite color. The fabric just pops. Tell me what you think of the fabric.
well cloudburst my friend...
well cloudburst my friend
i think you could do better on that one,
just cause it is cheap not always good. that is a little loud and you will get tired of it , as your taste matures,
go with a nice stripe, or something that is in Angela Adams fabrics, you can find them on ebay, or a nice solid, with wild accent pillows,
I see so much furniture every day and i tell the people get fabric that you will not get tired of in 5 years,
I have the luxury of changing my furniture and fabrics
every year, cause i own the business, most people do not, it still cost me, so look for something that you can live with , like a wife or husband....lol even thoe they are a little harder to change......
ohh, no. Buy a yard a have...
ohh, no. Buy a yard a have a pillow made. On something prominent and as
pricey as recovering i agree with LRF. Spend your money on a neutral quality
fabric and you will love it for years. Have pillows made out of something you
may get tired of. Much easier to change later...
I can see where you're going ...
I can see where you're going with it, but the pillow idea was a good one.
Now the test is to see how much you trust your sensibilities. If you like it, then go for it. Without a doubt, there are some very keen-eyed and seasoned members on this forum, I sometimes sense a little too much reliance on committee.
Be a radical. You can always have it redone in a few years.
I listen to these folks ...
I listen to these folks all the time
I was going to buy a Frank Lloyd Wright Price tower chair and have it reproduced.
It is all cast aluminum
the cost to buy the original chair was $20.000 and to reproduce it in the cast form about 1000. per chair,
with labor, and recovering, so a nice price could be made even if you went with 50 units, at $5000.00
but the general consensuses of the people on this forum hated the chair, thought it was ugly, why was I wasting my money, and my time, let that ugly robot die like it should have 55 years ago.
I hear you I listened....
And see? I have always...
And see? I have always thought that was an AMAZING chair to look at. The problem is that you really have to pander to a chair like that. You have to almost design an interior around it. In the wrong interior, it could be a white elephant, sure. But the chair -- I love to look at it, and find it insane that people shot it down.
I worry that some people might become timid or second-guess their sensibilities because of too many jeers coming out of their amen corner.
I try to avoid rigidity or all out self-importance and put myself in the shoes of someone else to see where they're coming from with their ideas on design or composition. Otherwise, it gets a little samey.
I guess my problem is....
That nuetral colors really bore me. Everything I have now is very nuetral. I have been thinking about making the sofa more nuetral colored and replacing the rug with one that really stands out. But if I don't go with the rug idea, then I definitely want a sofa fabric that pops out at you. The fabric above is actually very-well made and it looks alot better in person. It's not a cheap fabric. The owner of the store would be giving me a huge discount on it since I help with her internet business. I'd be open to more ideas on fabric or new rya rugs that pop...the rya rug I have now is all off-white, shades of brown, and tan. If I can't find anything else that catches my attention, then I might go with the above fabric. I definitely either want the couch or the rug to pop. I love bright colors and right now I don't really have anything that fits that description.
LRF -- you should have made...
LRF -- you should have made that chair. I can see one in a copper or bronze with a tomato red mohair in a room with little else but buff white walls or teak veneered walls in a chevron-type inlay and lots of sunlight. People shot you down because they're picturing it sitting next to their stuff...of course it would look clownish. A barber's chair from Mars.
I UNDERSTAND
the desire for high key color and emphatic patterns...but a sofa is the "anchor" in a room.I think you might be carried away by the good deal aspect?A busy pattern might wear thin in time,on the largest piece in the room.I have a thing for eye popping cerise but I keep it to temporal flowers,no sofa covered in cerise flower prints ...Patterns are very personal, however,if you love it go for it!
