I live in the Orlando area of Florida, so you can understand why I am surprised when I walk into a Lacoste for the hell of it, and see an eames armchair sitting right in the middle of the store, or more recently, an eames rocker sitting in the corner of a fossil store in Universal city walk.

So my question is, have you ever seen random mid century furniture in retail stores? I always wonder, specifically in the Orlando area, where these store owners are finding these vintage lamps and chairs. Orlando is barren when it comes to this category of design, at least in my experience.

Its been around for a while, larger comapnies have 'visual merchandisers' that take cae of that sort of thing, I'm always immediately suspicious, like they are trying to get money out of me with their contrived displays of attempted coolness.

Both
of the stores you mentioned are parts of much larger chains and as such will be the product of an interior designer who will be responsible for sourcing the furnishings. These designers will have contacts within the trade, so any furnishings may not be locally sourced.

Not to hijack this but just a quick aside for Robert, hope things are getting better, must be very tense. Long term unemployment is a curse you wouldn't want to wish on ayone.

A lot of the perpetrators are/ were employed.
I won't have a political discussion here, but thanks for your message. Thankfully free from trouble where I live!

The Anthropologie store in Towson, MD had a Paimio chair by Alvar Aalto for awhile, for sale. I don't remember the price but it wasn't cheap.

I assume these
icons are there either to spice up the "look" and/or because they're sure to sell (if in fact they're for sale, and not "dressing" ?). Many savvy retailers must be aware of the current/ongoing MCM vogue . . .

...of course, I understand.
Its a bit passe isn't it? Even here in the sticks the beauty parlours have knock off white barcelonas and the cafes have Eames chairs, its kind of boring.
