I just picked up a Herman Miller Rosewood Eames Lounge at a vintage shop that I believe to be 100 percent authentic. It has the Herman Miller labels, correct measurements, non-swiveling ottoman, etc. After removing the cushions to ship for re-upholstering I noticed an engraved 3 digit number on the inside of the top two sections (backrest).
I've googled to now avail and am wondering if anyone knows the origin/purpose of this number?
Thanks in advance
nice find!
those numbers correspond to all original matching wood veneer panels, almost surely rosewood. earlier models are impressed with matching impressed numbers on all pieces of wood and later ones are usualy written in a magic marker on all pieces. if you see a chair with a mismatched veneers, you will discover the numbers won't all match.
