I recently acquired this chair, which I've seen on the net with attributions to Eichler. I have a similar one, a bit smaller, on a swivel base, which I've seen attributed to a company called Hong Kong Rattan Ware.

Does anyone know if this is indeed an Eichler chair?

EDIT: I have since edited the title and comments on my flickr page with updated information on this chair. I wouldn't want to perpetuate any rumours that this chair is of a provenance other than the one referenced in straylight's reply.

Extremely unlikely.
Joseph Eichler was a real-estate developer -- a builder -- not an architect or designer. He was not known as a furniture designer.

Those chairs were made in...
Those chairs were made in British Hong Kong in the 60's.
While these type of chairs were commonly found inside of Eichler homes, the chairs themselves had nothing to do with Joseph Eichler.

Thank you fastfwd
I had a feeling that was the case. I'm not sure how someone got the idea that this chair was actually designed by Eichler, but the rumor seems to have grown. Another rumor was that this was by McCobb, which is obviously not true, either!

You are absolutely correct! I have another chair almost identical to this, but the seat is a bit smaller, it sits a little higher and is on a swivel base. I have seen attributions for that particular style of chair as being Hong Kong Rattan Ware.

Calif-Asia
This particular chair was made by Calif-Asia during the 60's and possibly earlier but I have found nothing authoritative showing it earlier than 1960 thus far.

Hong Kong Rattan Ware?
As best as I can tell there was never a company called "Hong Kong Rattan Ware" btw...

Probably not. But since it...
Probably not. But since it doesn't actually name a particular person or designer, I wanted to keep the reference to that name. There have been several instances on 1stdibs as well as a local mcm furniture dealer in my area, who've used this for this chair model. I thought it would just make it easier for someone to track on the net and to also prevent fraud or mis-attribution by dealers/sellers.
