6...5...4...3...2.....1.... it's knock-off lift-off !
Honestly, Iv'e seen this coming. Strap yourself into your swan chairs folks, so long as theres folk out there like our gay friend it's gonna get a whole lot worse.
That Target effort is the most hilarious thing Iv'e seen though. It looks like you would roll off the back with those angles. I wish they would do a miniature of that model.....I could use them for fire-lighters !
Target and Designers
Target uses designers for one purpose, and one purpose only: Publicity. When Target pairs with Isaac Mizrahi, or Michael Graves, or Tord Bontje they are counting on huge publicity blitzes that get people into the store. This is the prime objective of advertising anyway - get people into your store. Once there, anything goes.
Despite their outward appearance of a design savvy company Target has a vast array of knock-offs in their online marketplace. The most notable example came when Emeco sued them for pushing the 'cafe' (read 1006 Navy) chair. However, if you search "aluminum office chair" guess what pops up? About a dozen horrendous variations of the Eames Alu group. Target, it would appear, is just as concerned with a high profit margin as any other company. What is most hypocritical of them is that they do this despite their image of befriending design.
And just as a note - you dont actually have to have bought anything on Targets website to leave a comment, you just have to log on.

snap out of it, target
i'm actually quite disappointed in target. i do shop there for some things; i think the consumer experience is measurably better than what other discount stores offer.
their retail advertising is second to none [corporate in-house or outside agency, i don't know]. and back in 2003, they won the exclusive corporate achievement award with the national design museum, cooper hewitt. [see link below.]
hopefully the target boys and girls will get some of their design wits back and quit chasing the bottom line to the point of winning the zero authenticity award.

Sad thing is.
The sad thing is we bash this crappy chair ,but this chair wasn't meant for people who are into design. This chair just like most of the junk on the market that is geared to the masses. It isn't really meant for you or I.If we wanted a swan chair or egg chair we would search ,and find the real deal.Sadly; the vast majority of consumers really could care less about design really.Look in most homes today ,and I bet you will be hard pressed to find designer anything. If anything you will find wannabe items. Also; I don't think Target or Walmart should be where we search for treasure anyway.
