I recently came into possession of an original Egg Chair from a deceased family member. It has the original Fritz Hansen manufacturers sticker on the base, but the chair's condition is less than ideal. I'd like to bring it back to its original condition, but am having no luck finding anyone in the Southern California area that can do it.
Any suggestions?
Should I even restore it or keep it as is? Is it more valuable in an original, though tattered, condition?
Open to any and all comments.
Thanks!
If you're in San Diego, you could try...
Lalo Valdes, 619 232-3610. I'm only telling you because I've moved away from Southern California, so the amount of furniture-restoration work in his queue no longer affects me. Be aware that Egg refoaming and reupholstery is expensive.
It's hard to judge what the chair might be worth in its current condition without seeing it; one man's "tattered" is another's "age-appropriate patina". For an estimate of the relative value of the chair before and after restoration, you could show it to David Skelley at Boomerang for Modern, also in San Diego. 619 239-2040.
Good luck.
