Hello everyone,

Well I made a mistake and introduced my wife to this forum!!! She was checking out the radar section and has fallen in love with a Eero Saarinen oval side table.
The base is black and and the top is rosewood.

The seller is asking 500 Euro wich includes shipping.
The table is beautiful but I wanted some opinions from my friends on this board whether this was a good price and what actually made the price go up or down in regards to these side tables. I have seen prices from $50 up to $2000.

Rosewood?
black base?

Thank you in advance.

Still available
through Knoll or Knoll International. I'm assuming you are in Europe. Just go to the Knoll International website and find a dealer in your country. That will provide you with the new prices, vintage will be less.

OK, I just
saw in another thread that you are in the US. New price for that table at Design Within Reach is 1648 USD.

$50 to $2000
$50 is a Burke table with a scratched base and chipped laminate top on Ebay, with another $50 for shipping and handling.
$2000 ($2003-$2488, really) is Knoll's MSRP -- which no one actually pays -- for an oval side table with a wood or granite top. Street price for the rosewood oval, including shipping, is $1604.
The rosewood oval is the most expensive of the Saarinen side tables; for the cost of one, you could buy two marble ovals or three round laminate-top tables.
I've hardly ever seen a used rosewood oval for sale, so I can't tell you whether the 500-euro price is low or high -- and without being able to assess the condition of the table, it's impossible to make a comparison anyway -- but the price IS significantly less than the retail price of a new table. Shipping, insurance, and import duty may be expensive, though...
