I picked up this original oil on canvas Eden Harlequin "Big Eyed" girl paintings at a local auction a couple of weeks ago. The gentleman whose stuff it was said he bought it and another one at a booth at the 1964 New York World's Fair because he thought his daughter would like them. I didn't take these pictures they were taken by the auctioneer and put on the auction advertisement page. I can't find much information at all on Eden. Anybody know of a good resource to find out about the artist?

I too own a couple of Eden paintings...
He's one of the most well known 60's "big eye" artists,in the same league as Maio,Igor Pantuhoff,Margaret Keane.I believe he is European, and studied/lived in the US where his fame grew. These paintings all border on kitch, but are beautifully executed, and feature waif-like girls with big eyes,of course.Around 15x30" in size.I bought my Edens from Ebay.Paid average of $100-150.per,which is down from $300-400 a few years ago.Igor still commands high prices for his canvases-like $400-600. average, and I've seen larger pieces sell for as much as $900-1200.

Yes,most people observe them in the same light as
clown paintings.Definitely not for everybody.

Kitsch is good for a split-second condescending chuckle,
but once you own it, you condone it.
