Hi LRF,
If you put Ernest Race in the search in forum box you will find some material about him. I remeber we have discussed this before so there should be some information there.

Race Prototype
Hi Robert,
Nice chair, I think I saw one of those on eBay a while ago (perhaps the same one?). How do you know it is an Ernest Race prototype?
Thanks,
Ben.

Hi
The person it came from's husband had it from the very early Fifties, and always referred to it as the Ernest Race chair.
All the components, the 'Armstrong' glides, the teak arms - the way they are connected, and the tubular frame construction all point to it being so.
The framework is almost identical to that that of other Race chairs (but in a lot of cases it is covered -I've seen some being reupholstered)
I'm pretty certain it is the prototype I was told it was.

Ernest Race
There is a book on Ernest Race. Here is a link to a synopsis of what it's about... http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/books/mz/12844015/
There is also an excellent review of the Ernest Race book in the The Society Of Architectural Historians of Great Britain's current magazine 'Architectural History' by Professor Neil Jackson. I don't think this is available on-line though.
