modernica cats cradle base
I bought two cat's cradle bases from Modernica a year ago.
They look right once on the chair, and seem to function OK.
But when viewed from the side, the mounts on the Modernica base are at a very different angle than the original mounts. They line up "flat" -- as if on the same imaginary plane. The front and rear mounts on the original cats cradle are at different angles.
Also the screw holes are enormous and lozenge shaped (probably to account for the subtle differences in shock mount positions that sometimes occur from chair to chair) The screws that they provide are FAR too long, so be careful when mounting your bases if you use the provided screws. Without extra washers you could cause damage to your shell from the screws going in too far and contacting the fiberglass seat.
Also regarding the finish... I ordered "zinc" which I assumed was the dull silver metal finish as on the originals, but what I received was very shiny chrome. When I called about the finish, I was told they would accept returns, but that the shiny chrome looking finish was indeed what they called "zinc". The person on the phone said that if I wanted the finsish to dull a bit, that i could just leave them outside for a while... sheesh...
I decided to keep them. Once on the chair they look identical in shape to a cats cradle base.

I have a Modernica cat's crad...
I have a Modernica cat's cradle base that I bought in 2008 and it has the true dull zinc finish. They must've made some undesirable changes since. I did run into the issue with the long screws poking the fiberglass. I'm about to replace the shock mounts on that chair so I'll be able to see what kind of damage it did.
I recently ordered a set of Modern Conscience dowel bases for some extra sideshells I have. I heard they're comparable to the Modernica version. My only issue is that they're taking FOREVER to ship.
