Santos palisander is just a different variety of rosewood. I have read that it's renewable whereas the Brazilian rosewood used in the 50s and 60s is not renewable. And my understanding of the term "renewable" is that it means the source can be replenished at the same rate or better than that of harvesting it. Maybe the old Brazilian rosewood grows more slowly than the Santos variety. My guess, anyway.
