Hi
Could you take a look at this two unit and tell me what piece i'm missing?
The spider goes into the 5 star and it's too loose. It´s like a christmas tree that leans into every direction because the screws are too loose in the tree stand.
Seems like some kind of "neck" is missing which is very strange because it has never been disassembled.
Thank you

Eames Base
I am not getting the picture and I wish I could see it. There is a plastic liner that goes in the base that the spider goes through. There is a thin plastic washer at the top of the base and a snap ring at the bottom to hold the spider in. That is it. either your hub liner is very worn or it is missing. If it is an old chair it would have a bronze bushing in place of the plastic on.

Vitra base
It looks like a Vitra base which we rarely see here in the US and I have no experience with, so I'm afraid that I can't help you.
Perhaps someone from Europe will be of greater assistance.

Are you sure it's authentic?
Not a knock-off?

Do you think a chair bought...
Do you think a chair bought in Copenhagen in the year 1965 is a knock off?

Easy there, arno.
Most unauthorized copies I've seen here in the US over the years seem to have the Vitra-style base and, apparently, Vitra used different castings, further confusing things.
It looks to me like what Jimbo noted is right. Your snap-ring retainer appears possibly damaged and either the bushing is completely gone or has worn to the point where it might as well be.
If you poke around the site I provided a link for, you'll find a plastic replacement, though it seems to be out of stock. You could try Vitra or Graham Mancha in Europe or Hume here in the US. Maybe even the HM version will fit?
Oh, and now that you mention it, that vintage Danish dust is unmistakable. I should have noticed right off.
Bon chance!

Base
If you have the bronze bushing and it is worn out. It will need to be replaced with another bronze bushing. The internal diameter of both are the same but the external diameter of the bronze bushing is larger than the plastic hub liner
