I'm repairing a 70s lounge which has had its shock mounts re-glued so many times that the shock mounts have migrated to the wrong place. One of them even juts out beyond the plywood. I'd like to re-install them in the proper place.
Is there any literature out there with a template, or do any books have a clear and straight-on photograph or a diagram that I could xerox/enlarge to make a decent template? I know HM does these repairs, but not affordably, so I'll be getting the aftermarket shock mounts.
I could walk into the local HM dealer with an allen wrench and tracing paper, but I don't think they would appreciate it.

Hi halliwellic
I'll let you know what I know and hopefully find some pictures for you in a couple days; very tight on time currently. But please wait until you're certain about the shock mount position because once they're on, it take a bull to get them off again. Have you found the parts yet?

Here are a couple of pictures showing the position of the shock mounts on the lower back panel. These are not my pictures or my chair, so please don'g grill me for it. I believe it was done by Herman Miller. However, I have to say it doesn't look very clean or neat. In fact, it seems to me that the mounts are positioned too far in. My restorer told me before that the mounts on the seat pan are about 1/8" from the top edge of the plywood. I'd assume the same thing for the back panel, but according to these pictures, it's certainly more than 1/8". But if you're replacing the mounts on the seat pan, I think it's a easier because you just need to stick it right in the middle and 1/8" from the top. I believe I"m causing more confusion than clarification here. But I can concur that when I tried googling for pictures of the proper position of shock mounts, I couldn't find any useful ones. Maybe other experts can chime in too?
