I have an Eames rope-edge armshell on which the all 4 shockmounts have been detached. I have salvaged 2 of the original shockmounts.
I hate to give up on the chair because the shell is in very good condition (no cracks, chips, discoloration, etc.).
What are my options? Should I attach 4 new shockmounts so I can use the chair?
Try and locate a pair of the original wide shockmounts (no luck so far, probably will not happen)?
Or, should I pass the chair on to someone who could properly restore it and let them enjoy the chair?
Does the shell in its current conditon have any value?

The chair can be restored pretty easily.
I would write Alfie at humemodern.com
He restores midcentury furniture and might even have original parts.
Modernica also reshockmounts shells.
Also you could ask Steve at eamescollector.com

Its probably worth buying a second gen shell for the mounts, and grafting them on the rope edge model. I would ebay list it, and pass it on to someone waiting for a chair that already owns mounts ready to go. Why no one has repo'd this large shock mount is a mystery to me. Its certainly a potential money maker. I like the modern50 dot com site, and that guy knows how to find and fix this stuff.

large shockmount repro.....
I have located a source that will make a reproduction of the early large shockmounts. The only difference is that the original screws cannot be used with them. You would need to use a screw with the same thread as the more recent shocks.
If anyone is interested, let me know.
