Who do I gotta sleep with to acquire an original Eames boot glide for the solid rod first production X base??
In all seriousness, I acquired 2 gorgeous Eames rope edge arm chairs in parchment that have been stored away for 35+ years.
They were disassembled and one base had 3 out of 4 original glides!!
Soooo close!
I was hoping someone here had an original floating around somewhere that they might like to part with. I know you can get reproduction glides, bolts, and washers but of course I would at least like to set one up all original.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated as usual.
Funny coincidence, but about...
Funny coincidence, but about 1 month ago at a garage sale I scored an old mayonaise jar filled with about 50 or so brand new old stock Domes of Silence glides with embedded swirl/twisted nails. It wasnt until about a week ago that I realized that these are the exact ones they used on the early eames bases.
I'm wondering if these were especially manufactured for herman miller/zenith or were these simply something sold by the Domes of Silence company back then? In either case, they fit perfectly into an old x-base I had with missing glides.
Unfortunately these do not...
Unfortunately these do not have the holes for the Dome of Silence type glides (what an awesome score though!, assuming you are not being facetious).
These are the rubber boot type of glides.
I have the repro and agree they look just as nice but was hoping to make one of the two an all original set up.
Not looking for NOS used but barely functional would work fine, as that is the case with the other three.
It seems that shockmounts are original
I found a Zenith chair (2nd gen., see the pictures below) like I recently bought and it seems that my chair has original shockmounts.

question for you
Sorry, I don't have an answer for you but I do have s question I'm hoping you can answer. Does your chair have any embossed logos or manufacturing markings. I have what i believe to be a first generation pre-Herman Miller but I'm questioning it's authenticity because there are no markings . from what I am told there were no markings during this period. would you be able to please confirm that? Thanks on advance 🙂
