I am about to purchase some vintage Eames Wire Chairs. I wondered myself if any of you people know if there exist replica's/copies of those chairs, and if so, how I can tell them apart from the original.

I searched the forums, and noticed the same question has already been asked before, but I could not find any answers.

thanks a lot!

it's a start
modernica makes an eames wire chair, but i don't know if it would be considered a copy - they own most of the original presses for the fiberglass shells and make them the same way herman miller used to - but maybe that is still considered a copy, plus the wire chair is obviously not made in the same mold or press, but maybe you can't tell it apart from a herman miller one.

andyallen ...
Thank you for your reply.
With "telling apart from the original", I meant: "telling if it's not a Herman Miller or Vitra". If they're vintage Herman Miller, or Vitra, the price they want for the chairs is reasonable (not cheap though).
The price for a new Modernica wire chair is only $215, so if they're modernica, they ask more for the second hand chairs than a new one.
If I want to buy new Vitra wire chairs here in Belgium, they will cost me ?900 a piece. That's a big difference, if you know what I mean, so I really want to be sure they're Vitra, or vintage Herman Miller.
I know someone who bought 6 wire chairs back in the seventies. I am absolutely sure they are real. However, I am not sure if they are Herman Miller or Vitra. Do you have any idea since when Vitra began producing the chairs for Europe? The guy who is selling them told me that they are "originals from the fifties, or early sixties" So I think (not sure) they can only be Herman Miller.
I visited the person owning the 6 seventies chairs yesterday, and took a lot of pictures from all the details to take with me when I go looking at the chairs for sale tomorrow. I'll try to upload them somewhere today. Maybe you can take a look at them. Any clues are most welcome!
