Hi all,

Long time lurker and now decided to take the plunge and sign up! Picked up this stool today but not sure if it's the real deal..any thoughts?

Also has a split at the base, does that detract from use at all?
Seems like stool was oiled by previous owners it has a bit of sheen to it, any thoughts on refinishing? Tks much

Hi
Looks authentic... Has it been varnished or just freshly oiled? Also, what you're referring to as the base is actually the top side (larger diameter).

my understanding
is that these are prone to splitting. Kinda expected.

thanks all for the...
thanks all for the confirmation!! Woody on closer inspection it does look like some sort of varnish as there are dried up drip marks ina a few spots. Do you think it worth while to strip the varnish and restore to the oil finish and sand out the imperfections on the seat?

Hi
Personally, I would prefer the original-type finish. I'm not a fan of varnished wood in general. If you feel you are up to the task, I would say go for it.

Hi
I don't think a sloppy coat of varnish qualifies as "patina", but to each his/her own. 🙂

I Bet
the drip marks are just some old slime from a previous owner. Just clean, relax, and cover them with your OWN slime.
