Old
As much as I love the vintage ones, I do think it is fair to remind everyone that the new one comes with a 5 year warranty. Even though I wish Herman Miller would make that a 12 warranty like many of their other products, I still think having the reassurance is nice. Their customer service is great.
Hands down...I'd prefer the vintage Eames Lounge....
but when you factor in an active child, and a lovely wife, vintage becomes impractical as a daily sitting surface...especially an Eames lounge. If the lovely vintage piece were to say....crack/snap....ouch, the blame and bad mood would disrupt the abode. Vintage Eames chairs are best left for occasional gingerly perching. I'd opt for a new one in your situation. Congrats on both the new toddler, and the new chair.
But I'm usually half wrong.
Always,
Aunt Mark
