hehe, that's right 🙂
anybody knows the shop "Urban Base" in seattle? i heard from someone that claims he bought the ELC for approx $2400 six years ago, which is even cheaper than the $3300 from DWR.com and all the other online shops. He said that when I buy in the US, I can expect another 20-25% less than on DWR...
i agree with Barry on ...
i agree with Barry on this one Vitra seems like a double gouge and now with our weak dollar, wow are they doing great, but why not a uniform system for pricing, lined up with Herman miller and take the exchange into consideration. it would just make good business sense to me,. I think as a small group we are all disgusted with this company cause we love the stuff and just don't want to pay through the nose to own, cause one way or the other we can figure out how to get it through ebay or other means.
but for the average person out there they will have to pay through t he nose, and I think most could care less as that is why Vitra can build world class museums designed by Frank Ghery, with some hope they are giving back to the same group that they gouge ,
Expensive Vitra
Frankie, things have always been this way. Europe and Germany in particular where the Vitra chairs are made is a very high wage economy. Didn't one the German unions just agree a minimum wage of $36 an hour (Mattel the steel union I think).
But most of all they charge it because they can. Remember however, when the pricing was agreed with HM, the dollar was a lot stronger against the euro and Vitra have to pay HM a percentage of sales. Even forgetting the exchange rate, the license fee Vitra pay HM, ensures Vitra can never produce the chair for less than HM.
I do not know where in Europe you are, but I am in the UK. If you want to contact me, I can tell you about a 1970s walnut chair.
