Where is the HM label...
He did say he got it as a gift and it is brand new.
Does the chair come with any booklet/certificate when bought brand new?
Where is the HM label located? Under the chair or under the cushion?
Just asked for the pictures of the legs and label of HM. Will post on here once I have it.
This is what he wrote back in the email..
"You can just come by and take a look at it. I promise this is 100% authentic. The tags from Herman Miller are still on. THIS IS NOT A REPLICA.
I have alot of herman miller chairs, AND I DON'T SELL FAKE. If you want I also have the Embody, and Mirra chair available for sale.
I think the sticker has the unique serial # on it. If so, I am not going to send you the picture of the sticker. I can send you the leg pictures if you insist. "
Should I be suspicious?

Looks right
from the photos you show. My only question would be why he sent you only close cropped photos and not a shot of the chair and ottoman where you can see the entire set at a distance and angle that you can discern proportions. The color looks pretty dark and muddy. What does he say the veneer is? It's not walnut or santos. The only thing that could be close would be dark cherry. Maybe it's bad photography.
What bothers me more is the inconsistencies in what he's telling you. Who gets an Eames lounge as a gift then tries to sell it before they have as much as unwrapped it? Then you are told " I have alot of herman miller chairs, AND I DON'T SELL FAKE. If you want I also have the Embody, and Mirra chair available for sale." Was it a gift, or is he a dealer? Or was he also "gifted" Embody and Mirra chairs also (Happy birthday!). Why is he so afraid that you see a serial number? Is it stolen? To my knowledge there is not an Eames lounge registry citing owner by serial number. It's not like a vin number on a car.
If you pay $3000, you are saving at most $869. What is the piece of mind worth to you? Or maybe you want to ask why buy a new chair as opposed to vintage?
If you are interested, I say check it out in person. Can't hurt. But I'd go in with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Saving $869...
...and losing a 3-year warranty. Plus potentially buying stolen, damaged/defective, or grey-market merchandise.
If I were in your shoes, I'd wait a few more weeks for the Herman Miller sale on June 4th; between the 4th and the 14th, you'll be able to buy the lounge and ottoman -- brand-new and guaranteed -- for $3288, shipping included, from a reputable authorized dealer.
"I DON'T SELL FAKES!"...
The credo of every phony peddler this side of Times Square. My friend found a supposed Breitling Bentley watch on CL.I researched it,and recall some subtlety about the bezel and the stem that would differentiate a genuine model from a fake, and when it failed on both counts, and I pointed this out to the seller,he screamed the above in the midst of a busy mall.Nonetheless,my friend was quite grateful I saved him $1500 bucks.Damn convincing copy, though!
