i have a good condition LaFonda base and I'm in the market for a LaFonda fiberglass shell for it. I also have a Lafonda table base that needs to be rechromed...which I will do if I can locate a proper slate or marble table top.
Any ideas? How much should I pay for a LaFonda shell that might need reupholstery?
a lafonda shell should cos...
a lafonda shell should cost between 75 and 150
and i am so sorry that i did not know you a year ago cause i bought 20 from the University of Texas in Austin for 25 each. with stands,
I kept 6 for my shop and home and sold 10 to a guy who owned a store for 75 each. for wholesale
who sold them to a a guy in Santa fe who ended up selling them for 2500.00 on ebay three months ago, I have followed the chain.
On the table top ,
I would go and have a piece of nice marble or slate made and cut it the way you like it around 36 inchs round. as it will be great when you finish it, Tell them to put a small round bevel on it cause the originals are that way, Have them cut you a piece of round wood and then mount to the marble with a industrial strength adhesive bond. they have it . and it makes it easy and secure to set your screws.
This will cost you around $250.00 for a real nice piece of white marble, black slate will be cheaper, but the white marble is what he did the big tables out of black slate the small and the bases are the same so it is up to you which one you prefer, also the round bevel will need to be polished but well worth it ,
I paid 1500 two months ago in Dallas for Harding Lawrence the CEO of Braniffs Lafonda table from his office. and love it ,
If the base needs re chromed check the yellow pages it will cost around 150 for re chrome.
you can sand blast and power coat for 100 in a nice silver or dark gray, and they will put high gloss on the stand. I did that on 6 chair stands and they look great.
all said this deal should cost you 400.00 to get it perfect, but not only will it be a great investment piece you will love it and really get your monies worth out of it, from enjoying it with your Zebra chair.
