I purchased this Eames La Chaise, however, I have not found any examples with black shock mounts. Even the various knock offs consistently lack this type of support connection. Any ideas?
BTW, I am in the US. Did Design Within Reach sell a knock off version 5-7years ago with this type of connection?
Greetings Lenox.
I used to have on of these chaise lounges that I'm sure had no shock mounts (pretty sure). I did buy it from Herman Miller. Perhaps I'm confused.
Just a guess,
Aunt Mark (and many blessings to you and your lovely chaise)
ps enclosed is a snappy from Leslie Pina's book "Classic Herman Miller"
pss don't wear denim pants with metal rivets whilst perched in/on your chaise.

On the fiberglass filled shells made then they started production, as apposed to the hand made by Ray & Charles, the two shells were separated by rubber supports, and the shock mounts the legs were screwed into were on the inside. then the shells were filled with fiberglass. I not only own an original, but because my son-in-law was the buyer who dealt directly with Vitra, and managed an exclusive designer store in Miami. Prior to getting one myself, I closely inspected, and sat in dozens of Vitra La Chaise's. None
of the real Vitra's I saw had exposed mounts.
Check out "Tim Burton's Eames La Chaise Designed by Charles + Ray" on youtube, when the lounge is flipped up to show the sticker ( note that the sticker has been replaced and a portion of the old sticker is visible), you will see that the legs screw into a hidden shock mount.
As to the ones made from poly, I don't have a lot of information on them. If I can help, contact me.
