Funny
that they would make a reproduction of that. I always thought it was an old decoy and have seen vintage examples that were very similar. In fact, I think there was an inexpensive moulded chipboard version that was sold back in the day. You can find them in antique malls in rural areas.

" One of their favourite objects was a bird made of black painted wood that was produced in the Appalachian Mountains at the beginning of the 20th century. The figure accompanied them from the 1950s onwards. . ."
Perhaps they felt as I do, that the form is remarkably sophisticated in its "modern" simplicity and sculptural purity. . .?

thankyou James 🙂 sadly there not real wood but cheaper laminate plus being dark means they need sweeping every other day 🙁
Geo.H, I picked them up in this condition so cant say 100% if they have been redone but I would say not looking at them, the lady i bought them off mentioned she brought them back from Belgium some time ago, the colour and base combo seem to be quite common in mainland europe, they pop up on ebay de from time to time
Unfortunately i havent ot any experince of reupholstering there was a thread a while back about Djinn Chairs and this place was mentioned might be worth a look if you are UK based, if you are in the US i'd start a post on the forum as there is a good amount of 1st hand experience about having these chairs redone over there, best of luck 🙂
