Hi there,
I have been trading vintage Eames chairs for years and have suddenly stumbled over these - made a great deal on them and were ready to sell them on but... take a look at them - see link -

I am not sure that these are authentic - has anyone heard of reproductions of fiberglass chairs faking the Miller logo and everything??
What struck me first was the smell of fiberglass - the shells smell like a boat factory, second is the burgundy colour which I have never seen before and then pads indicating where the shockmount is placed - it seems the shell has not been in the original mold!? Also the shock mounts - seem new although the shell is claimed to be from the 60´.
And last thing that makes me wonder about the seller - he claims the dowel base is an authentic Herman Miller - know for sure that is not!
The seller has lots and lots of these shells.
Hope to get some input from you on this forum
I'd assume
refurbished shells on reproduction bases. I've noticed that many sellers are liars. If you know that the bases are not Herman Miller, and the seller claims otherwise, that's your answer as to how far to trust this particular seller.
When I bought my last car from a private seller, he offered to reduce the price specified on the title so as to save me money on sales taxes. This offer was an indicator of a lack of integrity on his part, a red flag. Although the deal was still fair to me, and I bought the car, the seller had demonstrated that he was dishonest by expressing a willingness to lie. This matters. An honest person is not dishonest!
Eames/ Herman Miller fiberglass - FAKE ??
Yes, the V below the Miller mark indicates that they are manufactured by Vitra, but take a look at the "flat" area indicating where to place the shock mounts -
it´s usually circular round and not like these - it seems like the shell has moved in the mold... I have never seen this before neither on Miller shells nor on Vitra shells
