I find it interesting that ebay aficionados are refering to anything MCM as "eames era". As one who may want to deal in this design era, is that the term the general public is more likely to recognize more than "midcentury modern"? This is strictly a crass marketing question.

mid century modern is the ...
mid century modern is the correct verbiage
Eames Era speaks for all the junk that you can buy on ebay from 1950 to 1975 Eames most prolific years.

This is news?
Ebayers have been using "Eames era" as a catchall marketing term since I registered with them ten years ago. It means next to nothing.

Yes, just a way to get...
Yes, just a way to get people to see their auctions. My mother actually called me one day because she saw an "Eames Era" lamp about to end for next to nothing. Of course it was garbage, and I informed her that Charles had never designed lamps, save for some very early commissions.

Some of these people on ebay...
Some of these people on ebay are pretty untakeable, though I will venture (with some reluctance) that one might occasionally bump into some treasure now and then with said query.
I saw a picture somewhere once of someone who had tattooed an Eeames Lounger on their forearm. Can you hear my flesh creeping??
I feel like, though, that this stuff is safe from lame association or saturation.
Hippies didn't ruin flowers for me, either.

I am surprised that...
I am surprised that Eames Demetrios has not written a letter to Ebay ,
saying that it was the wishes of Charles and Ray not to be identified with all crap that came out of the early 50s 60s and 70s and teach us
one more lesson on the lifes work of Charles and Ray.
He could state it is a mockery to there Lifes work and legacy and state about there Toys, movies and specific furniture made by the Herman Miller company of Zeeland Michigan.
Maybe the letter is in the mail.
.... and of course the Bimbos at ebay will listen,
yea right. lol on this one.

A few years ago I sold a Plycraft lounge chair on Ebay with the words "Eames style" in the title. A lawyer from Eames Office emailed me just before the listing ended and asked that I remove "Eames" from the title (which I couldn't, as it had bids and you can't change the title after there are bids).
He didn't care about the unrelated crap described as "Eames Era", only the stuff that actually looked Eames-ish.
Here's the email he sent:
Hello, I represent the Eames family. Thank you for making is clear this is not an authentic Eames chair. You are, however, using the Eames name to direct customers to this auction for an unauthorized reproduction of a protected design.
Normally, the family does not object to the phrase Eames Era or similar in an auction.
When the Eames name is used to sell something that is an infringement on a protected design that is more of a concern.
They would ask that you remove Eames from your listing, substitue a Modern Classic or something similar. They would prefer that the auction was removed but will agree to the title and desctiption changes only.
Please direct questions of comments to my Eames email address - ric@eamesoffice.com
Thank you.

My favorites are the ebay...
My favorites are the ebay listings that make multiple vague references to periods/styles. I come across many listing of "eames era/art deco" and eames "space age" items on ebay.
Check out this "SET OF 2 EAMES ERA TABLE LAMP ART DECO ORANGE BROWN"

spanky
I saw that letter from Rick Kiefer awhile ago,
and i think he was just some wannabe stooch trying to get in good with the Eames family , cause with all the crap that comes on ebay and people trying to pass it off as something Eames, who would really make a fuss unless you were trying to make points with someone. and if i am not mistaken the word Eames is not a copywrited word, could be but i do not know,
My theory for Diamontris be glad that those two were your grandparents, and left you not only royalites but a nice heritage, having hack attorneys writing letters to hard working folks trying to make a buck on ebay only causes resentment on your part.

Maybe the
Eames office should be pleased that the name has become a generic term, like the other examples above ?
Probably not. . .
I wish they WOULD object to all uses of the name on eBay ! And to the persistent mispronunciation of the name (good luck with that !).

That letter is aggravating....
That letter is aggravating. The fact is that chair IS EAMES STYLE! If it wasn't, they wouldn't be making a stink about it in the first place. Sheesh.
