"Rubberwood" is a
good guess for the seat and back veneers (after sanding, anyway), to my eye -- and I don't see anything that's convincingly walnut.
What, I wonder, would be the point, in restoring an old DCW, of rounding (changing the profile or shape of) parts of the chair -- unless the piece had been chewed by a dog . . .
I'd be interested in anyone's take on the issue of the spine and its varying number of plies. Could mine be the only voice on this subject ? Seems unlikely -- though I haven't searched the Web for other comments. Robert ?

Eames Office
Has anyone considered sending photos of the subject chairs to the Eames Office?

I have accepted the
fact that the pair I picked up are probably not the real deal and have since moved them into storage. I just sent them an email via the link you provided. I will be more than happy to send whatever pics are needed to them. Heck, I would even send them the chair if they wanted to take a look at it.
