Does anyone know why some of the Eames DCW and LCW chairs have a 5-2-5 bolt pattern on the bottom while others have a 5-2-4 bolt pattern?

the 5-2-5 are Paul Evans...
the 5-2-5 are Paul Evans editions. 5-2-4 are from Hermann Miller.

Common misperception
That's not quite right, loki. The 5-screw configuration (joining the front wooden legs to the spine / base) exists on all chairs made by Evans Products (er, not "Paul Evans"). (Evans made the chairs from '47 to '49, which Herman Miller distributed, with Herman Miller taking over production (and distribution) thereafter).
However, I've seen some Herman Miller-marked LCWs with the same 5-screw configuration. Thus, 5 screws is NOT a guarantee of an Evans-made chair. My understanding is that for about a year after HM took over production from Evans, HM kept using the 5-screw configuration. It was only after about a year that HM realized that 4 screws were just as good as 5, and thus changed it.
That's what I heard / read somewhere, anyway.
