Hello, first time poster. Just wanted to get the members opinions on which Eames molded plastic chairs should i get for my dining table.I ordered the Herman Miller Eames chairs in white with chrome legs, but after pairing it up with my Crate & Barrell Galvin table (has galvanized steel top), it looked off a little bit. I own an imitation Eames patch work end chairs as shown in the photo, and i am planning on replacing that with a HM orange/red end chair (which takes about 6-8 weeks to order). The second photo is a quick photo shop of what the orange chair would look like with steel legs. So here's my design delima. I would like to keep the orange/red end chairs with chrome legs, but would like replace the side chairs with white and dark walnut wood legs instead of the chrome. What do you guys think? is this a good combo or should i stick with all chrome legs?Oh and another thing, the table fits 8 chairs, but 6 is more comfortable. Should i get 2 more white side chairs or keep the current count of 6.thanks again.Roger
Because the end chairs are visually heavier and will have the thin metal legs, I would not use the chunkier wood legs on the visually lighter side chairs. You could use the wood legs on the end chairs and that would work; however, I think all chairs having the metal legs would be fine. With the six vs. eight issue, if it were me I’d use six; eight is going to look too cluttered.
Well, that has to do with how you like to dine; do you like having someone at the head and foot of the table ? How often do you have a table of eight ? If more than very seldom, get the two extra side chairs. (Since when did "arm chairs" turn into "end chairs" ? That's a new one for me -- though it kind of makes sense.)
All with chrome legs looks okay to me. Would the walnut legs really match the table legs ? If not, I'd say no.

thanks for your responses. your comments made a lot of sense.
As for the number of chairs... for some reason, the 2 side chairs looks like it needs a filler chair or one more chair. Does it look cluttered? Heres a picture with 3 side chairs. What do you guys think?
As for the legs, here's my thoughts: 2 sides with metal legs looks like the 2 chairs are floating. Last night i went to DWR studio and looked at the dowel legs and they do look beefier. The sales associate also agreed that the metal legs do give the illusion that the chairs are floating. So if i go with the metal legs, i think it should be with 3 chairs on each side.
If i choose the wood dowels, then 2 chairs on each side will work visually - the only issue i have on that now is that, based on your comments, i have to make the end chairs beefier, therefore changing the end chairs to wood dowels also. Making all the chairs wood dowels (total of 6).
If i choose all metal legs, then total chairs would be 8. Will i have more than 6 everytime? not all the time but, right now there's 5 adults that would use it everytime.
When no one is using the table, the chairs should be placed on top so the night crew can clean the floor . . .? Just kidding.
I'm a practical guy when it comes to design; if only six are eating, the other two chairs should be placed against the wall, so the diners are comfortable and not crowded -- and so it doesn't look like two more were expected but couldn't make it. Utility trumps passive prettiness, every time; if you can make both work, that's successful design.
The chromed wire legs look maybe a bit insubstantial compared to the table, so I'd vote for all wood legs, if there's a choice. Matching legs on all chairs is a no-brainer for me -- but I don't think its a deal breaker (if I haven't already used too many clichés) and different colored shells would "excuse" a change in legs from arm to side chairs, for me.
The uniformity of the chairs, all from the same series, and the simplicity of the table, means you can't go too far wrong no matter what you do. Congratulations !
Thanks again SDR. I do agree with your comments. 6 chairs all walnut wood legs - 4 white shell and 2 orange.
I also failed to mention that this area is still work in progress. I still need to hang something on my teal colored wall. Also, i am still looking for a walnut wood buffet to place against that teal wall.
with that in mind, which would leg do you think would work better?
Here's another view of my dining looking at the living room.
Thanks again,
Roger
