We'll...Vitra's second Eames release this year. They have worked with the Eames Office to update the chair and make a larger version for taller people. I thought they might just scale up the chair all over to keep the proportion the same, but it looks like they increased the depth of the seat and backrests are taller. People are taller now than in the 1950's and as a former sales person, there were many times a person would sit in that chair and not quite fit. Anyway, since there has not been a formal press release, only on facebook here are some photos. Enjoy.

this new ridiculous chair's just going to make the earlier versions more valuable, hold on to your compact eames lounge chair, because it will be the next sought after by the collectors, i can just see the ads on ebay and craigslist: "authentic lounge chair early period compact size, won't fit your mother-in-law's butt but it's vintage alright."
Ugg
Given that much beauty of the chair comes from its proportions and symmetry...just ugg.
For those that are not familiar with the chair, the ottoman and seat should be the same size. This is mirrored above where the seat-back, and headrest are also the same size.
When looking at the chair head on there is a perfect square formed by the 4 buttons of the headrest and backrest. This square is echoed by the outline of the seat/backrest.
Pushing any of those proportions is going to muck up the beauty of the chair. Blah...

Well I'm not against the idea.
I love the Eames lounge chair, but I'm one of those people who's unfortunately too tall to comfortably sit in it.
I eventually went for the ea 222 soft pad instead.
Still, I wonder how the 'bigger version' will look in real life.
I agree that much depends on the proportions.
