I inherited an Eames aluminum lounge chair, black leather with no arms, that my Aunt had bought new a long time ago. There are no tool marks or penetrations in the aluminum sides to attache arms. On the underside is "Herman Miller Patent Pending"
I have searched the internet and cannot find an image of that chair, without arms.
From reading the other thread, it seems that the "Patent Pending" may indicate first year production, or pre-production, status.
Can anyone shed any light on the lack of arms?
Thanks
Different Connection to the base
My chair has a significant block of aluminum that transitions the bottom wishbone, on the seat underside, to the base. The chair also has black ribbed leather, which I believe is less collectable than the Saran.
The image provided by your link has a much more elegant stance, without that block, but does not seem to have the capability to lean back.
Vinyl
It's probably vinyl. You asked whether the lounge chair was ever offered without arms. I provided an example of such a chair.
Here is another.

thought that's an "EA 124" tilt swivel Lounge Chair,
from the first edition in vinyl. ?
They were availeble without arms.
The pictures are from the "EA 116" swivel Lounge Chair.
The back of the 124 is a bit higher and the sitting hight a bit lower.
As i know the first edition of this chair, was produced in polished
aluminum , vinyl and without a second spreader under the seat.
Next "pre Vitra" edition, has the same base, but a second spreader
under the seat.
