I would information regarding the process used on the black armrest supplied on Eames Aluminum Group chairs. The armrests seem to be powder coated in semi-gloss black & covered with some sort of clear protectant.
Early literature describes the armrests as enameled,the protectant was used on both the polished aluminum & the black armrest.
On several of the vintage examples I've seen the clear protective layer has been worn through & has even yellowed on some pieces.
