This is a shot in the dark but I figured I'd give it a shot. Authentic *new* mid century furniture is priced way outside of regular people's budget. Which is why replica stuff is a great way to get into the genre.
I have a $1k Eames lounge chair which is almost indistinguishable to the untrained eye from an authentic one.
I am in love with Knoll's Pollock office chair, but asking over $2k for a plastic backed chair is in my opinion laughable. You can find used ones for $300-$400, but still thats crazy for what your getting.
I could see a chinese producer being able to offer these at $100-$200 new all day long. Thing is I haven't been able to find any reproducers.
Does anyone know of a replica of this chair?
Edited by DesignAddict: No link to unauthorized reproduction please!
I'll bite. Steelcase made some chairs that look kinda like Pollock chairs, but if you really love design why settle? You need to shop somewhere else. You could buy authentic Pollock chairs "all day long" for $200 or better on Craigslist and ebay. If you look hard enough, you could wven find an authentic Eames chair for what you spent on a knock off.
Thats what I was thinkin' too, Emcee M...
And if a plastic backed chair IS such a horrible thing, why knock it off in the first place?
(I know, I know, because its $400.)
I used to be able to find those Pollock chairs "all day long" in the thrift shops. I liked them enough. But eventually I would accumulate a ton of 'em and then load them up in the old El Camino, and trade em all to dealers for….. ………. EAMES ARM SHELLS!! (Still would too)
